Gifting that’s Near and Dear

August 15, 2013

So I was going to post about writing, and I still might later tonight, but I just finished up my mother’s birthday gift (August 16th, I know, cutting it close) and wanted to share it with you. The painting in the first picture was done by my very artistically-inclined mom (she’ll deny it, but don’t listen) when she was my age and a lot was going on. Out of all of her artwork, she has told me the most about this very painting, which I actually keep in my bedroom, and I’m inclined to believe it’s the most important one.

So I broke out my watercolors and some simple gray cardstock and decided to make a little rendition for her birthday card. It’s much smaller and not quite as nice, but I think the sentiment is just as strong. The present itself is small but is also shiny so I know she’ll like it 😉 I used brown paper wrapping with a white lace overlay and repurposed the extra scraps to make a simple bow-flower on top. She likes those too.

I am just so aware of how much she has done for me that days like her birthday, or mother’s day, both of which she forgets each and every year, are events worth celebrating. You’ve got to remind the special people in your life how much they matter to you. Sometimes it isn’t as obvious as you’d think.

I hope you have a beautiful day tomorrow. It’s going to be nothing bundt cakes over here. (I crack myself up…)

xx
