Taking Stock: Living in New York After 1.5 Years

February 13, 2018

new york writing living creativestay nycI realized today that I’ve lived in New York for exactly one and a half years. All this time has absolutely flown, so I figured it was worth taking stock of my time in NYC since I did this at the six month mark.

Months 6-12

I started taking the ferry to work every day, and eating dinners at all the outdoor options in Brooklyn. Watching all the cafes blossom onto the sidewalks around the city was pretty special. I started making smoothie bowls every morning, and for my friends throughout the weekend. I started volunteering in full force, exploring businesses local to that area after my shifts. Alex and I celebrated being together for three years, and went to our first Broadway show too!

The summer was full of travel–– I was out of town for at least one week each month. Bali, Oregon and North Carolina were all wonderful adventures, but it made the warm season go by way too fast.

I’d say we both hit our grooves over the summer; with work and home. It was a good feeling.

Months 12-17

It’s official: fall is my favorite season in NYC. I know I’m not alone in this, but between the holidays, family visits, and changing leaves, there’s a magic in the air that goes through December.

My workload crescendoed during this time, but I helped get two campaigns out the door so it was incredibly rewarding. It also wrapped up just in time for me to spend over a week with my family back in California.

Currently: Month 18

I’m settling into this long winter as cozily as I can, and embracing the slower days. Making soup from scratch, sleeping in on weekends, and enjoying the snow (most of the time).

Hoping to show my face a lot more around here, make more memories with my closest friends, and plan adventures for all the warmer months to come!

The long and short of it: I like this city a lot. And it’s still growing on me. Thanks for having me, NYC.
